Quick TLDR, the Harry Herbs planting system is a small container planting system that is self-watering. It is a unique product that I think is the perfect solution for those with small spaces who want to grow their own food.
- Takes up very little space
- Grow inside or outside
- Allows you to grow all year round
- Attractive design
- Limiting growing room (However, Charly Chili, Sammy Salad & Tom Tomato all offer different sized containers)
As someone who loves plants, it can be hard living in a small space or even an apartment that provides you with little to no room to grow your own herbs and vegetables.
Today I am here to review a new product that might be a solution to this problem: Harry Herbs.
In this article, I am going to be reviewing this product prior to its release to see how it works and whether it is worth the investment.
What is Harry Herbs?
So let’s get into it; what is Harry Herbs?
This is a very clever 4-in-1 growing system that has been specially designed to be used in small spaces, whether that be indoors or out.
This planter allows you to propagate and grow your own herbs from seeds super easily. The integrated irrigation system uses moisture wicking to absorb water from the reservoir. I think this is the perfect solution if you want to grow herbs but you tend to forget to water them.
The goal of this planter is to encourage people to grow herbs and lettuce at home. This will not only save you money in the long run, but it also reduces the amount of packaging you would otherwise accumulate by buying them from the supermarket. This makes Harry Herbs a very sustainable product.
The setup is straightforward, and the whole unit can be washed in the dishwasher in between uses, which is incredibly convenient.
What parts does this growing system comprise of?
- Removable nursery lid with adjustable vent opening
- Tray with eight nursery pots
- Insert holder
- Planter with space for 5L soil, a 0.5L water reservoir, and the water level window built in.
The design itself is sleek and contemporary and comes in four colors: white, green, blue, and grey.
In my opinion, the attractive appearance is a huge selling point because it allows you to incorporate it into your home design. The planter can be wall-mounted and hung on a balcony or sit on a countertop or windowsill, and it will look good in every location.
How Do You Use the Harry Herbs
When it comes to everyday maintenance, Harry Herbs couldn’t be easier.
All you need to do is check the water level through the viewing window and fill it up whenever it drops. This takes away the responsibility of daily watering, so you can leave your herbs for days on end without having to worry about them, even if you go on vacation!
If you are using soil, the only other setup you need to do is to fill the 5L planter box with nutrient-rich soil. It’s really that easy!
As we mentioned previously, this growing system is a 4-in-1 product; let’s elaborate on that.
1. Propagator
This is where your plant journey begins.
The tray has space for eight starting tablets or sponges where the seeds will start germinating. You can leave the lid on during this time and use the vent hole to control the internal environment.
The seeds you propagate in Harry Herbs don’t have to just be herbs, however. You can start off any seedlings that you like in the safety of the propagator and simply transplant them into larger pots when they have sprouted and grown stronger.
2. Planter
Once your seedlings have germinated, you can remove the lid and turn it into a planter.
The root system will reach down into the soil in the base and grow a strong foundation for your little plants. You can harvest as needed, but be sure to harvest regularly to prevent the herbs from going to seed.
3. Hydroponic
If you live in an apartment, it’s doubtful that you have space to store a bag of potting soil; that’s where hydroponics comes in handy!
Hydroponics grow plants using just fresh air and clean water.
In this instance, you will skip adding the soil to the planter and just fill the water reservoir as usual. The nursery pots in the tray are designed to fit hydroponic starter sponges, so all you need to do is pop in the seed, and you’re ready to go!
The openings in the bottom of the nursery pots will allow the roots to grow through so they don’t get root bound.
4. Microgreens
Microgreens are a superfood that is very high in vitamins and nutrients. They are great as a nutritious garnish or as an added flavor to a salad.
They can be grown easily in the Harry Herbs using the seed mat. They should start to sprout and be ready to use within three to four days. They are usually grown with soil.
